Ever since I moved to the Freeport area students from Yarmouth High school have contacted me for their  job shadow requirements. This year I had 3 students contact me, and I took 2 Sophia and Shephard. The first day we squeezed into my little office and they watched me photoshop images for a photo order and album design. The second day Benn was working on my website so I let them take some of my equipment out to shoot outside. On the last day of their job shadow the three of us plus Benn, went out to do a little shoot so they could see equipment put to use and do a needed headshot for myself. I prefer to be the one taking the photos and took some of them. Here are some of Shep along with the questions he answered for me, as I was curious what he thought being a professional photographer was all about, and I also wanted to know what he wanted to learn as I he might as well learn a few things he can use in taking better pictures now.

 Questions between me and Shep.

What do you think it means to be a  professional photographer?

  • I think it means traveling places to take photos for a living.
  • To know a lot about photoshop and what your camera can do
  • Taking photos for people that hire you.

What do you think it means to be a good photographer?

  • Having lots of knowledge about lighting, editing, your camera.
  • Having a good eye.
  • Being open to shoot different things.

What do you want to learn?

  • I want to learn how to adjust my shutter speed to the photo show cool light trails.

I went over all that with Shep and he tried it out on the train by house, and said he needed more practice, that it didn't turn out how he wanted. I hope he is keeping up with practicing! Maybe he will get a tripod for his birthday so he can do the long night exposures he likes!!

Here is a photo of myself Benn got with the help of the kids!

I do offer private photo lessons for a few people each year. For more information on a private lessons or any group classes I teach please contact me.
