1. Client Spotlight on Integrative Medicine: Lauren and Travis Dyer

This month’s Picture This! Client Spotlight is about Lauren Dyer. I first met Lauren and her husband, Travis, when they reached out to me about an engagement shoot and wedding photography. This charismatic and energetic couple had such a fascinating story, I was hooked right from the start. Not only did they meet while they were studying at New York Chiropractic College, but they powerlift competitively, and bring to their business, Empower Chiropractic and Acupuncture, a brilliant integration of Western and Chinese medical treatments. Read more about Lauren and Travis in my Client Spotlight blog or view their wedding slideshow and story.

2. Happening Now!

There's a lot going on right now and we're getting in to a busy season for all families. Don't miss out:

3. Announcements

Dot com.

Well, first things first, we've changed the website. Hoping the updated look will be easier to browse--and there's lots more pictures from weddings to life events to business headshots.

And, as part of the new website, I have added an online store. Previously, you could only make purchases of our products while in a gallery. Well, galleries are open for a specified time and, well, sometimes it takes some of us a while to make decisions. No fear--soon you can purchase items through store with pictures I have taken for you or even with digital negatives of your own. And we'll still have consultations, especially about albums and collages. So check in often, as new items will be posted as we work through the transition!

A Sweet Note

Lucia and her saxophone were part of a fabulous band concert held at Freeport High School in early April. The concert featured both the Middle School and the High School bands, a first in our experience. And how cool that my daughter and her classmates could be inspired by the older kids!

Stepping Out

Last month, my dance students from the Maine Coast Waldorf School held an exhibition performance at a local Coffee Shop. It certainly had many of them stepping outside of their comfort zone! Their routine highlighted the basic steps of salsa and bachata in couples dance to lively music from .... I think this is something I want to do more often with my movement classes.

Speaking of dance, on April 8, my team from Alma Cubana performed at Salsa Fiesta: A Fundraiser for Partners in Rural Health in the Dominican Republic. That night of fun included dance lessons for the guests from the talented Vanessa Webber. Don't hesitate to visit Alma Cubana's calendar on Facebook for new events and dance bootcamps!

The Wrestling Take-Down

You had a chance to meet my nephew Jake in a recent spotlight on his wrestling. After winning the Class A Wrestling State Championship for heavyweights, he went on to pin his way to an All-State Championship. That qualified him to compete in the New England Championships, where he came out representing Maine with a fabulous fourth place finish! He's going to keep wrestling in college, I have learned. He'll be going to the University of Southern Maine this fall to study business and be a member of the Huskies Div III wrestling team. Go Jake!

Lastly, just a reminder that Spring is here. Really.

4. Framing the View

I chose this image taken at a recent in-home newborn session for Framing the View because it says so much. I got this shot of Eva and Devon while standing on my tippy toes on my step ladder with a 17 mm lens! I took this image because big sister was torn between wanting to copy me, standing on a step ladder looking into the crib and giving my attention to baby brother, and being the center of attention! I asked Eva to move her step ladder over to where mine was and reached for my camera with the wide angle and included them all.

Framing this view is about adapting to circumstances and using resources to get a great shot even though it wasn't the shot planned! I kept big sister happy and while capturing her baby brother in his crib, which is what I wanted all along!
