Sunrise Ceremony at Pemaquid Point

I have photographed hundreds of weddings and people often tell me you must have seen it all. Well I thought I had and then Melyssa called me to photograph her ceremony and I did, and my mind was blown! I often want to photograph at sunrise, but who wants to get up before dawn and be ready to go at sunrise? Not many people. In fact, I was in California at the time Melyssa called me and I had tried to convince my daughter to go out to the beach that morning, and she said no mom maybe tomorrow! Well, we know how tomorrow goes. But May 11th, 2019 I hopped in my Jetta with GPS, a cup of tea and breakfast on my lap and headed out to Pemaquid Point at 3:45 am. It is surprisingly light a good hour before sunrise! I had pictured fumbling in the dark helping Melyssa getting into her dress, but no. When I pulled into Pemaquid Park with Melyssa and Greg right behind me in their New Hampshire ride, I was moved by what I saw. I stepped out of the car and was in awe. I couldn't see the ocean because of the little hill but beyond that, I could hear the crashing of the waves on the rocks and the glowing fog rolling fast over the brightening sky. It was like I had stepped into another dimension.

Melyssa and I picked out a spot for the ceremony. I set up my time-lapse which you see above. Melyssa and Greg took turns getting dressed around their truck. Greg's best friend Greg got his license to marry them and the boys headed off in the direction of the ceremony site. Melyssa and I followed a few minutes later with her best friend her dog, Troy. What I liked that morning was not only the Dom, which was perfect. but the way Melyssa and Greg exchanged vows. Alone on the rocks, just the five of us, they exchanged vows and as one said their vows the other was searching the eyes of the other eating up every word as if their hearts were devouring it. It was truly beautiful. 

We had had a week of rain, but that morning breaking like a moment from up above, the clouds were parting, the sun was rising and glory was shining down upon their vows and us all. I thought to myself, how timeless this place is. I imagined all the thousands of other glorious mornings that had to have occurred there, and finally, I was lucky enough to witness one of them and capture it along with the love of Melyssa and Greg. After that morning I was left feeling how beautiful our earth is and how beautiful love and commitment is. Cheers to Melyssa and Greg!
