Underwater Photography Session Fishing in Lake St. George

If you don't know, I have been working on a series of images of Maine water from the viewpoint of being in the water. I have a deep appreciation for nature and water and a portion of the proceeds from my water series sessions and fine art go to support environmental non-profits who work to protect our water sources.

I started off this series this year in early June at Lake St. George in Liberty, where I grew up. I had purchased a wetsuit last year for my daughter, it fits me about halfway up, and let me tell you that helps so much! Lake water is cold in Maine in June. I am getting my own wetsuit, I am now a believer! This shoot was the first of testing shooting fishing, I have never done this before. In fact, I hadn't been out fishing since I was 12 and my dad and uncle asked me to go out. I swam back to shore. Yeah.

Who better to go out on the water than with my nephew, Jake, a two-time bass tournament winner on his new (used) boat! I wanted his younger brother Isaak, who has now left for the US Marines (until who knows when) and my Dad. They were instructed to get photos and videos of me in the water, but that didn't really happen. Photos weren't their thing, but fishing and eating sandwiches my mom made were!

I will be heading back out with him again in a couple of weeks. The fishing was good that day and luckily, in the 25 minutes that I was in the water, he caught about 5 fish!

These images are created with my Nikon d700 and my 17-35mm lens with underwater housing.

If you are interested in doing a photoshoot on the water, get in touch. I have a half dozen families signed up to incorporate that into their shoots this summer!
